Südkorea in den 1980er-Jahren: In der fiktiven Kleinstadt Hope Harbor wird Polizeichef Bum-seok (HWANG Jung-min) von seinem Cousin Sung-ki (ZO In-sung), der mit seiner Jägertruppe unterwegs ist, zu einem Unfallort gerufen: Mitten auf der Straße am Waldrand liegt eine tote Kuh. Die Jäger vermuten eine Tigerattacke und suchen das Tier. Während Bum-seok Verstärkung zusammenzutrommeln möchte, gehen immer mehr Anrufe ein, in denen von einer mysteriösen Kreatur berichtet wird. Schon bald gleicht die ganze Stadt einem Kriegsgebiet. Bum-seok und seine Kollegin Sung-ae (JUNG Ho-yeon) haben alle Hände voll zu tun, um die Situation unter Kontrolle zu bringen.

Nach zehn Jahren kehrt NA Hong-jin mit einem fulminanten Fantasy-Action-Spektakel zurück, das seinen Zuschauer*innen kaum eine Verschnaufpause lässt. Hope wurde beim Cannes Film Festival 2026 uraufgeführt und zählt zu den bislang erfolgreichsten Filmen des Jahres in Südkorea.

South Korea in the 1980s: In the fictional small town of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (HWANG Jung-min) is called to the scene of an incident by his cousin Sung-ki (ZO In-sung), who is out with his group of hunters. A cow has been found dead in the middle of a road at the edge of the forest. The hunters suspect a tiger attack and search for the animal. As Bum-seok tries to gather reinforcements, more and more calls come in reporting sightings of a mysterious creature. Before long, the entire town resembles a war zone, leaving Bum-seok and his colleague Sung-ae (JUNG Ho-yeon) with their hands full trying to bring the situation under control.

After  ten years, NA Hong-jin returns with a spectacular fantasy-action epic that barely gives its audience a moment to catch their breath. Hope premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2026, and has become one of the most successful films of the year in South Korea.
