Manok (YANG Mal-bok), eine selbstbewusste, leidenschaftliche lesbische Frau mittleren Alters, ist die Besitzerin einer Lesbenbar in Seoul. Nachdem sie vom Tod ihrer Mutter erfährt und mit persönlichen Problemen konfrontiert wird, kehrt Manok in ihr Heimatdorf Iban-ri zurück. Dort stellt sie fest, dass der selbstsüchtige Dorfvorsteher, ihr Ex-Mann (PARK Wan-kyu), sich kaum um die Dorfbewohner*innen kümmert. Mit dem Wohl des Dorfes im Blick, stellt sich Manok ihrem Ex-Mann entgegen und kandidiert selbst für das Amt. Trotz der Skepsis und Homophobie, die ihr von den Bewohner*innen des Dorfes während ihrer Wahlkampagne entgegengebracht werden, gibt Manok ihr Ziel nicht auf.
Manok ist ein queerer Film über Liebe, Freundschaft, Aktivismus und Solidarität. Diese farbenfrohe Komödie mit herzerwärmenden Momenten ist eine Empfehlung für alle, die nach einem leichtherzigen, aber zugleich berührenden Film suchen.

After learning about her mother’s death and facing personal struggles of her own, Manok (YANG Mal-bok), a confident and passionate middle-aged lesbian woman who owns a lesbian bar in Seoul, returns to her hometown, Iban-ri. There, she realizes that the selfish village chief who is also her ex-husband (PARK Wan-kyu), barely cares about the well-being of the villagers. Determined to stand up for the people of the village, Manok confronts her ex-husband and decides to run for the position of village chief herself. Although the villagers’ skepticism and homophobia make her campaign difficult, Manok refuses to give up.
Manok is a queer film about love, friendship, activism, and solidarity. This colorful comedy filled with heartwarming moments is especially recommended for viewers looking for something lighthearted yet emotionally moving.
