Nach einem unerwarteten Wiedersehen am Flughafen blicken Eun-ho (KOO Kyo-hwan) und Jeong-won (MOON Ga-young) auf eine gemeinsame Zeit in ihrem Leben zurück, in der aus einer zufälligen Begegnung zunächst Freundschaft und schließlich Liebe entsteht. Ihre Erinnerungen erzählen von einer großen Liebe, getragen durch gemeinsame Träume und Ambitionen und von gegenseitiger Hingabe und Unterstützung. Aber auch von den Herausforderungen des Lebens und des Erwachsenwerdens, die ihre Beziehung auf verschiedene Weise auf den Prüfstand stellen. Und nicht zuletzt werfen sie die Frage auf: “Was wäre, wenn?”.
Durch die Augen der beiden Protagonist*innen ermöglicht uns Regisseurin KIM Do-young mit Once We Were Us einen berührenden Einblick in die Beziehung zweier Menschen, bei dem die Nostalgie der Erinnerung auf die Weisheit der Gegenwart trifft.

Following an unexpected encounter at the airport, Eun-ho (KOO Kyo-hwan) and Jeong-won (MOON Ga-young) look back at a shared time in their lives, in which a chance encounter led to a friendship at first and eventually turned into love. Their memories tell of a deep love, carried by shared dreams and ambitions, and of mutual devotion and support. But they also tell of the challenges of life and growing up, which are putting their relationship to the test in various ways. Ultimately, the question that remains is: “What if?”.
Through the eyes of the two protagonists of Once We Were Us, director KIM Do-young allows us a poignant glimpse into the relationship of two people, in which the nostalgia of memories meets the wisdom of the present.
